Leah Floyd, Adjunct Professor of Photography in the Departments of Art and Design, is currently exhibiting her new work, Blue is the Longing, at the Front Gallery in New Orleans, LA.
Blue is the Longing combines video, collage, fiber and photography to explore the complexities of communication and intimacy. Throughout the work, Floyd utilizes the image of the horizon as a metaphor for the unattainable. This work seeks to reframe the negative feelings often associated with longing, as a neutral, natural human emotion. Floyd suggests that we cannot eliminate all yearning from relationships, but rather should learn to expect and accept these voids, more readily yielding to the gap that exists between what is desired and what is received.
The exhibition runs from Saturday, January 14 to Sunday, February 5. The Front, located at 4100 St. Claude Avenue, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm.
