Director of School of Music Theater Professions & Conrad Hilton Endowed Chair in Music Industry Studies, Assistant Professor-Popular & Commercial Music
Kate Duncan brings a wealth of musical and music industry experience to Loyola's School of Music Industry. A musical educator and performer, Kate has spent the decade-plus working in nearly every genre - jazz, funk, pop, opera, and even country. Kate also currently works as a performing musician, vocal jazz arranger, lecturer, and clinician across the country in addition to her duties at Loyola. Kate currently serves as Loyola's Associate Director for the School of Music Industry and Chair for the school's Popular & Commercial Music and Urban & Electronic Music degree programs respectively. Her classroom duties include ensemble direction of two vocal jazz groups: Crescent Collective (SATB Vocal Jazz) and Quarter Tones (SSA Acapella), private voice study, professional development and internship course instruction, Pop. Capstone instruction, Artist Health & Wellness course instruction, and Masterclass direction. Kate is also co-director for Loyola's Paris Study Abroad program; teaching a common curriculum course within that program each summer as well.
In addition to her administrative and classroom assignments, Kate also serves as faculty advisor to Full-Tilt Marketing, a student-operated entrepreneurial group, and is active in several gender equality groups and events, such as: the Not Your Mother's Lecture Series, Girl's Jazz Day, and the Women in Music initiative.
