Daniela Marx

Daniela Marx is a Full Professor of Graphic Design at Loyola University New Orleans.  She looks to Loyola's Jesuit mission of social justice to shape Loyola's design students. In the past she worked at Fabrica, an international research center for design located in Treviso, Italy. Fabrica participants pursue research through creating and producing groundbreaking projects in collaboration with commercial clients to governments, NGOs and the cultural sector. Fabrica's ultimate desire is to positively impact upon social and cultural change.  Daniela has also worked as a designer for George Magazine in New York City. George,  a glossy monthly magazine, centered on the theme of politics-as-lifestyle co-founded by John F. Kennedy, Jr. After working in NYC she received her MFA at California Institute of the Arts, where she focused on social political issues through motion graphics and screen printing. Aside from teaching at Loyola University New Orleans, she does freelance graphic design focusing on motion graphics, print work and silkscreening, usually collaborating with local artists, musicians, politicians and writers. She particularly likes to work on projects that can benefit the New Orleans community.  Daniela’s also had a one-year sabbatical at the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.  The experience of teaching and traveling in the Middle East expanded her repertoire in pedagogy, collaborative experiments, and socio-political design. It also allowed her to reflect on her now home town: New Orleans, where she has lived since 2001.
