Instructor of Bass
Casandra Faulconer, born into a Canadian musical family, began her professional career playing bass with her father’s band at age 15. She graduated in 1994 from Humber College’s prestigious music program in Toronto, specializing in performance of contemporary pop and commercial music. Ready for new horizons and the lure of travel, Cass headed out to play six nights a week with an 11 piece show band cruising the Caribbean and finally landing in her adopted port city of New Orleans.
Her formative and versatile years gigging and technical training she received at Humber is what launched her professional, diverse and supportive presence on the bandstand, backing top level acts like Papa Mali, Cowboy Mouth, Charmaine Neville, and Cirque du Soliel. She’s a highly sought after sideman and has traveled the world over supporting and enhancing many world class artists and productions.
Some career highlights include performing in the Royal Albert Hall, Lincoln Center the Blues Music Awards and festivals like New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest. She was nominated for “Best Bass Player” in OffBeat’s 2005 Best of the Beat Awards. 2010-2014 toured and recorded with New Orleans’ iconic rock band Cowboy Mouth. Played in the live-broadcasted house band for WWOZ’s Piano Night (2006-2009) supporting legendary artists like Dr. John, Eddie Bo, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Marcia Ball. Touring as a bass player and band leader in North America, Europe and South America under the bigtop with Cirque du Soleil’s show Amaluna from 2014-2020.
