The fourth floor of the School of Communication & Design building was alive with excitement as parents walked into Loyola's first “Parent Party” for the College of Music and Media class of 2026 on Aug 18, 2022. During the summer orientation, parents requested more channels that allowed them to connect with each other, meet faculty and understand the school better.
“We want our students to know the abundant resources and touchpoints we have to help them find their place and thrive at Loyola” said Kern Maass, Dean of Loyola College of Music And Media. The parent party gives parents the opportunity to be more involved with their children’s education and help equip them with resources for their success.
“This is a wonderful initiative. One more way I as a parent can support my child while they’re here so they value their education and life a little more” shared Asa Wild, parent of a jazz studies student.
Excited students were also in attendance to interact with faculty. Marin Trepagnier, shared her excitement about the upcoming year and involvement in the theater department. The party allowed students to give parents reassuring insights for their student’s time at Loyola.
Karen Van Vandt, parent of a theater major student, shared how she hopes Loyola’s diverse culture will help her son grow in his Catholic faith, craft in theater and meet different people from all over the world.
Director of School of Communication, Dr Sheryl Haydel, shared her excitement about the event and the upcoming school year.
“I have an expression that says “SCD NEXT LEVEL” because we’re taking things up a notch. Whether it be in the classes, our students outside the classroom etc. I'm excited to pour into our students who are so meaningful, full of life and potential”
