New Loyola Record label provides platform for artist and students

Loyola students in the record label operations class take practical learning to a new level by working together and launching “Wolf Moon Records''. The label is proud to have four signed artists as of Fall ‘22.  The opportunity provides a platform for students and artists to dip their toes in the real world of music and label operations.

“I never realized how serious and life-changing this class would be,” said Isabell Banks , who works with the label's business administration. The first generation of the class laid a solid foundation by doing the necessary manual labor to ensure the label runs smoothly and successfully even past their time at Loyola. The students behind the label hope artists use this opportunity to build themselves and develop their craft.

The label requires students to work together in many different elements of a label’s operation. “I would not describe this process as easy,” said Aja Cousin, who also works in business administration for Wolf Moon. “But the support of Loyola and our lecturers has given us the momentum to keep our goals afloat,” said Cousin.

The label is redefining Loyola’s music industry department by working towards collaboration with other departments in the university. Wolf Moon aims to bring in more students from other departments such as business, design and law to develop their skills and the label. The existing collaborations all came together with the release of the label's first artist, Yung Senju,  song called “Too Soon” made available on streaming platforms on Oct 21, 2022.

Although behind the scenes, students are learning and developing themselves as much as signed artists they have the freedom to try different positions and find where they thrive best in the business. “I have a lot of peace post graduation because I know I will be fine no matter where I end up. The class has shown me my potential and purpose” reflected Aja on her time in the class.
