With an enrollment of over 200 students, the Loyola Preparatory Arts Program offers music lessons to New Orleans area students of all ages. Children and adults enjoy learning music in a structured, yet inviting, academic setting. All instruction is offered on campus by the very best, experienced, competent teachers, many of whom are Loyola alumni. We offer lessons in: guitar, piano, strings, voice, woodwinds and brass.
Guitar
Guitar lessons are offered in a variety of styles to students of all levels from age 8 and older. Instructors tailor lessons to the individual needs and desires of the students.
Piano
The piano division is the largest segment of the Preparatory Arts Program, offering piano lessons in the New Orleans area to beginning and transfer students from kindergarden through adult. The majority of our instructors hold advanced degrees and are certified by the Louisiana Music Teachers' Association and/or the Music Teachers' National Association. Students in 1st - 9th grade benefit from the pairing of private and group instruction, allowing for the creation of a solid theory foundation.
Strings
The Loyola Preparatory Arts Program's violin school is a Suzuki-based program offering lessons to students from four years of age through adults. Students in the program study both ear-training and note-reading skills as they learn classical repertoire.
As a Suzuki program for children, the Preparatory Program violin teachers work together with parents for the education of each child, with both parent and teacher supporting the student to achieve the greatest potential. Students receive weekly private lessons, where parents attend and learn how to assist the child in home practice. School age students are required to attend both a weekly private lesson at Loyola's campus and a weekly group class at the GNO Suzuki Forum's School. All students are also encouraged to participate in community service and local musical events around the Greater New Orleans area.
You will find information on class schedules and class tuition rates for the Greater New Orleans Suzuki Forum by visiting their website.
Students are required to have a properly-sized instrument in good condition, and should also be prepared to purchase a few needed instrument accessories and music books, according to their individual teacher's direction.
Voice
Voice lessons will focus on proper breathing, correct posture, vocal health, technical exercises and performance preparation. Learning new songs and perfecting old favorites will add a sense of accomplishment and give an aspiring singer new-found confidence. Students ages 13 and up attend one private lesson per week. Lesson lengths are 30, 45 or 60 minutes, as determined by the instructor.
