Jake Eckert has had a career in the music business for over two decades. He is both a full-time musician and a Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and producer. Jake holds a B.S. in Music Industry Studies from Appalachian State University and a B.M. in Commercial Music from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. 

Jake currently lives in New Orleans where he is the owner/engineer at Rhythm Shack Studios. As an engineer he holds credits on two Grammy Award Winning albums: “Tassili” by Tinariwen, Best World Music Album 2012 and “Porcupine Meat” by Bobby Rush, Best Traditional Blues Album 2017.

As a performer Jake is best known as the lead guitarist for Dirty Dozen Brass Band where he performed countless shows around the world from 2006-2013. Jake played on the 2009 Grammy Awards backing up Allen Toussaint, Lil’ Wayne, Robin Thicke, Terence Blanchard and Dirty Dozen Brass Band. He is also a founding member and guitarist for New Orleans supergroup, New Orleans Suspects, 2009-Present. Before his time in New Orleans, Jake lived in Los Angeles where he was a busy session musician and a professor at the world renowned Musicians Institute in Hollywood.

Jake has performed or recorded the following artists: Little Feat, Larry Carlton, Allen Toussaint, George Porter Jr., Lil’ Wayne, Dr. John, Warren Haynes, Art Neville, Chali2na, Robin Thicke, Dave Matthews, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, DJ Logic, Otiel Burbridge and Marcus King among many others.

Jake is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Loyola New Orleans, he teaches the Recording Studio Techniques Classes.
