Professor of the Practice in Violin, Coordinator of Strings
Amy Thiaville began playing the violin at the age of 4. She studied with Daniel Mason at University of Kentucky throughout high school. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison where she studied with the late Vartan Manoogian. She won various competitions, awards and scholarships throughout her undergraduate studies and played in the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and the Madison Symphony. She then went to Yale where she earned her Master of Music degree in Violin Performance under the direction of Sydney Harth, the late Erick Friedman, and members of the Tokyo String Quartet.
After finishing her studies, Ms. Thiaville moved to New Orleans upon receiving the title of Assistant Concertmaster in the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). She earned the title Concertmaster shortly after and held the Concertmaster title for over ten years. She has performed as soloist with the LPO including Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Vaughan Williams Lark Ascending, and Mozart Symphonie Concertante to name a few. She also performed regularly with Loyola faculty members prior to becoming part of the faculty.
Ms. Thiaville is also one of the founding members of Music Alive Ensemble, a chamber ensemble based in New Orleans integrating classical and jazz music along with other art forms. She is a member of River Oaks Chamber Orchestra based in Houston and travels to various universities and cities to do master classes and recitals.
She lives in New Orleans with her husband and three children. She has been on the Loyola faculty since 2006.
