What are the class(es) you teach? Can you tell me a bit about the topic and how you’ve gone about teaching that course?
I teach Media Ethics. We discuss some of the ethical challenges that exist in the media and the principles and standards we should adhere to. It was my desire for this to be a discussion-based course where we talk about our personal experiences and values in conjunction with existing, generally accepted ethical standards. Media is such an integral part of our daily lives, whether we realize it or not. It's important for us to evaluate the media we consume and discuss our ethical contributions to society in our respective fields.
Tell me a bit about yourself... (Where are you from, what school you attended/still attend, what was your major?)
I am New Orleans born and raised. I received my bachelors in Mass Communication - Public Relations from Xavier University of Louisiana with a minor in Business Administration.
What advice would you give current students attending Loyola?
Take advantage of this time! These may be some of the best years of your young adult life, so cherish every experience, learn all you can, and build fruitful relationships with your peers and professors on campus. Ten years from now...they will still matter!
How would you describe Mass Communication to someone who may be unfamiliar with it and how does studying it benefit someone?
Mass Communication is simply the relaying, transmission, or exchange of information. This information influences how and what we consume, what we believe, and how we interact and engage with the rest of society.
