The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance is pleased to announce that Akeem Biggs, sophomore Theatre Arts major, has been selected to serve as the College of Music and Media Student Representative for the newly formed Academic Integrity Council.
Originally from Mississippi, Akeem was initially attracted to Loyola because of the vibrant arts scene and vivid culture of New Orleans; upon seeing the quality of the productions produced by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, he knew Loyola was the place he wanted to be. In his first year at Loyola, Akeem was cast in the Department’s production of Wealth, and completed Service Learning at Freret Neighborhood Center and Good Shepherd School. Akeem can be seen onstage next month in the Department’s production of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Dr. Laura Hope, Associate Professor. When nominating Akeem for the Academic Integrity Council, Dr. Hope wrote, “nobody embodies integrity better than Akeem, who faces adversity time and time again with a level of unselfish dignity and grace that is an example to us all.”
The Academic Integrity Council adjudicates undergraduate appeals of Academic Honor Code violations and educates the University community on all matters of academic integrity. The Academic Integrity Council is responsible for promoting a culture of academic responsibility that reflects Loyola University New Orleans’ Jesuit values. To do this, the Council will assume a central role in educating all members of the University community to the highest standards of academic integrity. Eight undergraduate student representatives to the Council (two each from each College) are appointed by the Provost to two-year terms based on recommendations by the college deans, departmental chairs, and faculty.
