Alumna Kerry Cahill ‘05 returned to the Loyno stage this fall to perform in Southern Rep’s, Loyola’s resident theatre company, production of GROUNDED. Cahill starred as an Air Force pilot whose career is ended due to her unplanned pregnancy. A position in the “Chair Force” piloting a drone puts the war just a one-hour commute from her husband and daughter in the Nevada suburbs. From George Brant, whose work the Sun Chronicle calls “stunning and haunting,” GROUNDED is a one-woman journey into the heart of darkness where the vast deserts of Iraq and the USA are separated only by a 1.2 second delay. The production received such a positive response that extra performances had to be added to meet the demand.
Cahill graduated from Loyola’s Department of Theatre Arts and Dance in 2005. In addition to studying at Loyola, Cahill also went to Europe and attended the British American Drama Academy (Oxford) and Queen’s University Belfast. Upon returning to the states, Cahill began to study in Chicago with the Second City, the Profiles Theater, and Rick Snyder. In New Orleans, Cahill has won Big Easy awards for her performances in Zombietown and Lysistrata. Cahill’s professional success has expanded into film with notable credits including Free State of Jones, Terminator Genisys, Devil’s Knot, and Midnight Special. Cahill can also be seen in Season 7 of “The Walking Dead.”
