On October 25th, Loyola will host the first meeting of an exciting, new Improv Troupe. Guest artist Brian Patrick Moore will head up the troupe, which will be an ongoing collaboration with TAD, leading students in a fun-filled night of improv games and exercises. Each of these activities is designed to make students laugh, more confident, and better performers.
“Improv is a way to sharpen the tools in an actor’s toolbox,” notes Moore. “It is a practice that allows artists to touch base with the fundamental elements of performance. It is a pathway to character exploration and aids in the creation of your imagined worlds…it’s also a hell of a lot of fun.”
Moore, having studied improvisation at Second City Chicago and iO Chicago, movement with Lume Teatro (Campinas, Brazil), and clown with Ronlin Forman, is more than equipped to be at the helm of this Troupe. Additionally, he has worked professionally as an actor, writer, and director in Chicago, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Louisiana, Michigan and Stockholm, Sweden. He received his BA in Theater Arts from Marquette University where he was awarded the Chris Farley Humor Scholarship. He earned his MFA in Physical Theatre from The Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre.
Over the course of the last few weeks, Moore has been a guest teacher in Acting I and Directing I classes, teaching students about improvisation and movement through rigorous physical and vocal exercises, leaving them sweaty and smiling afterward.
The consensus from many students: Improv truly is a hell of a lot of fun.
