Professor Ty Lawson aims to introduce students to a new world through a study abroad program he describes as magical, life-changing and unforgettable in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. An unforgettable trip in January to Buenos Aires helped Professor Lawson make the choice that it was the ideal location for students to get a well rounded experience in culture and communications.
“Everything the students will do is going to be very current and relevant, ” said Lawson as he gave a glimpse into what students will be learning during the summer program taking place in the summer of 2023. Classes will take place on the campus of Universidad Austral, a Argentinian university with a very strong communication and design school. Austral offered professors experts in journalism, music and film in addition to other Loyola professors who will also travel to Buenos Aires and teach in the program.
“We’re not only focusing on just journalism,’ said Lawson. Students will study and dissect culture and communication. Topics will range from dissecting Latin American media, music, sports and journalism among other exciting subjects. The last week of the program will take place in the famous music studios, Otro Mundo. Students will learn and integrate with the studio. At the end of the week, students will perform in a big concert to celebrate their time and everything they experienced during the program.
“This is not drive-by tourism, I really want students to get involved and immerse themselves in the culture of Buenos Aires” said Lawson as he described what students will get from the experience. “The people and culture are so special all over the city,” expressed Lawson when talking about what makes Buenos Aires special. Beyond school, students will experience cooking classes, learn tango and soccer like never have before. This is more than a study abroad program, it is a chance to learn and gain a global perspective all while having too much fun.
